The Re-Art – International Youth & Fangyuan Marine Sustainability Program takes place in the intertidal zone of Wang Gong, Fangyuan Township, Changhua County, Taiwan. This outdoor learning experience combines international youth exchange, intertidal ecological exploration, and marine sustainability action. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the unique coastal ecosystem and fishing village culture of Taiwan’s west coast.
The program begins with a guided exploration of the intertidal zone led by professional eco-guides. Participants will observe a variety of marine organisms such as fiddler crabs, mudskippers, and shellfish while learning about tidal environments and the importance of coastal ecosystems. The activity continues with a cultural tour of Wang Gong fishing village and oyster farms, where participants will learn about traditional oyster aquaculture, local maritime culture, and the long-standing relationship between people and the sea.
In the afternoon, participants will engage in marine sustainability actions and citizen science activities. These include marine debris surveys, ICC (International Coastal Cleanup) waste classification, basic environmental observation, and creative recycling using ocean waste materials. Through these hands-on experiences, participants will explore issues such as marine pollution and environmental sustainability, while transforming conservation ideas into creative artistic expressions.
By integrating environmental education, marine education, and creative arts, this program provides experiential learning and cross-cultural exchange opportunities. Participants are encouraged to reflect on the relationship between humans and the ocean, develop respect for marine ecosystems, and cultivate a sense of responsibility for environmental stewardship. Ultimately, the program aims to inspire meaningful actions toward ocean conservation and the preservation of local coastal culture.
